The goal for this project was to redesign the case of a Bluetooth speaker and ensure that it’s still functional once in a new form. We first started by dissecting a cheap Bluetooth speaker to understand its internal form, and then started moodboarding to discover an art style or era that would inspire this exterior. I chose the modern nostalgia for 70s architecture as my theme, and pulled from various designs of devices such as radios, as well as furniture such as couches and conversation pits, to create a hybrid shape for this case.
I then drafted about 20 initial sketches to help me work on initial ideas, which I then 3D-modeled and 3D-printed to understand them in a physical context. I then revised the shape into a single product and rendered an animation to explain its structure better.
